A Message From the Dalai Lama Center Board of Trustees

On behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education, I wish to thank all who participated in Connecting for Change 2009. We are very appreciative of the commitment that participants made to come and to take part fully in the event – a very long journey for some.

For Trustees who participated in the event, it was an enriching and positive experience and we were deeply encouraged by the connections made and the inspiration shared within the community that was formed during such a short time. We are also immensely grateful to the many personnel who made the event a success, especially volunteers and facilitators who gave so wholeheartedly of their skill and time.

The Vancouver Peace Summit 2009 and Connecting for Change have given all of us great momentum and hope for the work that we are undertaking collectively to further the Dalai Lama’s message.  We are already moving forward with initiatives to support Connecting for Change, including establishing a LinkedIn group and will be developing further strategies over the next couple of months to support the next steps in developing and resourcing the program.  We look forward to sharing more with you in the weeks and months ahead.

Over the past year, the Center has taken strides to solidify its mission, vision and values, establish solid governance and management structures and has secured a Managing Director.  We have also created a firm vision for programs and put in place a solid communications infrastructure at both governance and operational levels. As well, the Center is in the process of shaping a strategic direction for programs and the core functions required to support them, including physical/site requirements. As the DLC Case for Support outlines (and as shared with you on the final day of Connecting for Change), the Center is moving forward with planning and implementing a number of core programs including Connecting for Change, the Speakers Series, the Centre for the Advancement of Heart-Mind Education and the 14th Dalai Lama Global Scholars and Fellow Program.  We are delighted that His Holiness has given his blessing for the Center to launch the latter two new programs. We look forward to sharing with you the developments in these programs. Lastly, we are taking steps to secure resources to support the Center.

We wish you the very best as you take the insights and relationships from Connecting for Change into your life and work and as you continue your relationship with each other.  We also value your continuing involvement in and support for the Dalai Lama Center for Peace and Education.

Brenda Eaton, Chair
